Telescope Viewing at SACS Junior School

Who says only the night sky is interesting? SACS Junior School in Newlands was very enthusiastic about participating in the 100 Hours of Astronomy. They therefore chose a day time event to allow a maximum number of learners (587!!) the opportunity to look through a telescope. When asked, some learners thought that the dobsonian was a canon!!! After the "oohs" and "aahs" the ones who expected canon balls being fired surely overcame their disappointment :-).

Three telescopes were set up: one pointing at a IYA 2009 banner fixed to the Pick n Pay building in Claremont, another at the canon at the block house on Devil's Peak, and a third at the fireman's hut on Devil's Peak.
